Date: 29th April 2018, Sunday
Time: 09:00 – 15:00
Route: Tai Shui Hang - Tai Mei Tuk (New Route)
Distance: 40km
This training session's intended goal is to help us build up our endurance and familiarize ourselves with the ironclad mindset required for long distance cycling.
Moreover, in this training session we needed to apply and demonstrate all the techniques we have learnt and been practicing for the past four training sessions like braking and getting on and off the cycle at signals, proper turns at corner and shifting gear at slopes.
As it was a Tuesday, there were not many people cycling on the route, therefore we were able to practice splitting from one line to two lines to cycle with ease. Our training leader emphasized a lot on pacing out while cycling as the route was longer than our previous training route. This is because pacing ourselves will allow to conserve energy so that we will be able to go a further distance before tiring out ourselves.
Since this was our first time cycling this far of a journey, some of our team mates found the route difficult. But each of us motivated one another throughout the training session so we were able to overcome this practice session. The main take away of the training session is to have adequate food at least an hour before cycling and carry enough water to stay hydrated during a long cycling journey.
